Village Unites for Earth Day

New Glarus residents demonstrated their commitment to environmental stewardship this past Saturday as they gathered for a community-wide garbage pick-up organized by New Glarus Cares to celebrate Earth Day. Despite the chilly temperatures, the event drew over 20 enthusiastic volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to beautify various areas around our picturesque town.

The clean-up efforts were extensive, covering key locations including Veteran’s Park, Valle Tell Park, Village Park, Candy Cane Park, and stretches of Highway 69, Highway O, and Legler Valley Road among others. Volunteers also combed through downtown areas and along Railroad Street, north and south, ensuring no corner was left untouched by their dedication.

The event kicked off in front of Fat Cat Coffee Works, where participants were provided with gloves generously sponsored by Brenda's Blumenladen. The gloves not only facilitated the task at hand but also underscored the community spirit driving the initiative.

"We had cool temps, wind, and even some snowflakes, but everyone came with smiles," shared Dorene Disch, New Glarus Cares board member and one of the organizers, highlighting the cheerful determination that defined the day.

Organizers of the event said the success of the Earth Day clean-up underscores the passion and unity within our community when it comes to preserving the environment and fostering a sense of pride in New Glarus. “As the spring season unfolds, New Glarus residents can look forward to more opportunities to engage in activities that strengthen our community bonds and improve where we live, work, and play,” said Karen Condouris, New Glarus Cares board member and event organizer. “It was a good day.”
