So Why the Penguin?
When New Glarus Cares was first established, our mission was clear: to protect a beloved greenspace near Candy Cane Park and Killer Hill, a cherished spot where children have sledded for generations. In the early days, as we embarked on this community-driven project, we needed a symbol that would represent our values and our commitment to preserving and enhancing our local environment. That's where the penguin came in.
The original penguin logo was hand-drawn by Lola Endicott, a talented student from New Glarus High School. Lola’s drawing captured the essence of our mission with simplicity and charm. Over time, as our organization grew and our projects expanded, the need for a more refined logo became evident. With the launch of our new website, it was essential to update our visual identity to reflect the professionalism and progress of New Glarus Cares. This is where Kristie Derendinger, a graphic designer from Minneapolis, stepped in. Kristie, who has generously donated her expertise, transformed Lola's initial sketch into a polished logo that aligns with our current goals and enhances our brand's presence.
So, why a penguin? Penguins embody many of the qualities that are central to our mission. They are known for their strong sense of community and cooperation. In their harsh environments, penguins huddle together, sharing warmth and protection. This spirit of collaboration and mutual support mirrors the core values of New Glarus Cares.
