Playground Project Nears Fundraising Goal

New Glarus Cares Community Foundation is edging closer to its fundraising goal to fund a new inclusive playground at Candy Cane Park in New Glarus. The community-driven initiative recently received a significant boost with a $20,000 donation from Only in Wisconsin Giving, the philanthropic arm of New Glarus Brewing Company. This contribution brings New Glarus Cares closer to its target of $54,326 for its portion of the project.

In addition to this generous donation, New Glarus Cares secured an $80,000 contribution from an anonymous nonprofit organization, further propelling the project towards success. The Village of New Glarus has also demonstrated its commitment to the community by matching this donation with an additional $80,000.

With the necessary funds almost in place, the project is well underway. The old damaged playground equipment on site has already been removed and site work has begun. Preparations include clearing the area for a new rubber pour-in-place surface, helping to protect the safety of the children who use the new play structures.

Shelly Johnson, President of New Glarus Cares, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, saying, "We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support from Only in Wisconsin Giving. Their contribution is instrumental in funding the new playground at Candy Cane Park, providing a safe and fun environment for children and families."

The new playground equipment is expected to arrive before the middle of August, with installation slated to begin shortly thereafter. Johnson said more information on the community build and park dedication would be shared soon as dates are finalized.
