Earth Day Clean Up
New Glarus residents demonstrated their commitment to environmental stewardship this past Saturday as they gathered for a community-wide garbage pick-up organized by New Glarus Cares to celebrate Earth Day. Despite the chilly temperatures, the event drew over 20 enthusiastic volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to beautify various areas around our picturesque town.
The Project
The Earth Day Clean-Up was born out of a desire to bring the community together to address the accumulation of garbage and litter that built up over the winter months. New Glarus Cares organized this inaugural event as a way to not only clean up the town but also to promote environmental awareness and civic pride. The initiative targeted key locations across New Glarus, including Veteran’s Park, Valle Tell Park, Village Park, Candy Cane Park, and stretches of Highway 69, Highway O, and Legler Valley Road, as well as downtown areas and Railroad Street. The goal was to leave no corner untouched, ensuring that our community remained as beautiful as ever.
What We Did
The clean-up kicked off in front of Fat Cat Coffee Works, where volunteers were provided with gloves generously sponsored by Brenda's Blumenladen. Armed with gloves and garbage bags, the volunteers spread out across town, braving cool temperatures, wind, and even a few snowflakes. Despite the weather, the spirits were high as residents worked side by side to remove litter and debris from parks, roadways, and public spaces. The event’s success was a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved, from the organizers to the volunteers who took time out of their day to make a difference.

The impact of the Earth Day Clean-Up was immediate and visible. With the garbage and litter removed, New Glarus was left looking pristine and ready for the spring season. The event not only beautified our town but also reinforced a shared sense of responsibility for maintaining the environment.
