In a historic moment for New Glarus, New Glarus Cares Community Foundation, Inc. successfully completed its mission to purchase the land adjacent to Candy Cane Park and closed the deal last Tuesday. The Village of New Glarus and its residents proudly own the sprawling 2.2 acre adjacent to Candy Cane Park, a project that began in October 2022 and did not require any public funding from taxpayers to complete.

New Glarus Cares, using funds raised from the community, presented a $75,000 check to Only in Wisconsin Giving Foundation. Their contribution was a matching $75,000, which covered the $150,000 purchase price for the property. Shelly Johnson, representing New Glarus Cares, then officially deeded the land to the Village of New Glarus. The agreement included certain restrictions ensuring the land would be maintained as greenspace in perpetuity. The effort was a significant triumph of community spirit and dedication.

New Glarus Cares played a crucial role in organizing the effort, but it would not have been possible without the generous support of the Only in Wisconsin Giving Foundation, the charitable arm of New Glarus Brewing Company, and the many businesses and individuals in the community who also gave.
