Decatur Cheese is Tournament Sponsor
The inaugural World Euchre Championship is this Saturday in New Glarus, and Decatur Cheese, a renowned Wisconsin cheesemaker, is sponsoring the event and its cheese curds have been named "the official cheese curds of Euchre" by the World Euchre Federation. All proceeds will go to the New Glarus Cares Community Foundation to help purchase land adjacent to Candy Cane Park in town.
Decatur Cheese, which is based in Brodhead, will provide several pounds of cheese curds for the winners, as well as bowls of their award-winning white muenster curd, cheddar, tomato basil bacon, U.S. champion garlic and dill, and ranch curds for all the players to try.
Steve Stettler, a Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker for Decatur Cheese and a graduate from New Glarus Wisconsin, will be representing the company at the tournament. Decatur has won numerous awards, including U.S. and World Cheese Contest awards and several Wisconsin State Fair Awards. In 2007, they swept the U.S. Contest and the Green County Fair, taking first, second, and third in Havarti at both contests.
Stettler, who is the only Master Cheesemaker in cheese curds in the world, has described the perfect curd as "squeaky, a slight touch of salt, and a little warm." With cheese curds being in such high demand in Wisconsin, he advocated for creating a master status in cheese curds in 2016. From there, he worked for three years to earn the status. New Glarus Cares is proud to be sponsored by Decatur Cheese and its cheesemaker, one of New Glarus' favorite sons.
