Puempel’s Donates $2,000 to Candy Cane Hill Project

On Sunday New Glarus Cares Board members and friends met at Puempel’s Olde Tavern for the annual removal of half of the money clinging to the ceiling in the bar, a popular tradition. The other half of the money on the ceiling remains so customers can still enjoy the splendor of bills stuck to the ceiling overhead while they enjoy a cold brew or dine in the tavern.

Each year Puempel’s owner Chuck Bigler and his staff choose a local community organization to donate the proceeds of the money taken down from the ceiling. This year both New Glarus Cares and Chalet of the Golden Fleece will benefit from the generosity of Puempel’s Olde Tavern and their customers. Since the tradition began over 20 years ago, Puempel’s Olde Tavern has donated over $26,000 to local community organizations.

“We are thrilled to be supporting two great causes,” said Chuck Bigler, the owner of Puempel’s Olde Tavern. “We hope this money will help preserve this valuable greenspace at Candy Cane Park for future generations to enjoy.”

We also encourage everyone to participate in the silent auction for the “Go Bigs or Go Home” fundraiser (https://www.facebook.com/gobigsorgohome) which runs from February 22nd thru March 3rd.  Half the proceeds from the silent auction will be utilized to fund the Jeremy Bigler Scholarship and the other half will be donated to the Candy Cane Hill project.
