Euchre Championship Sells Out

Excitement is building in New Glarus as the town gears up for the highly anticipated 2024 World Euchre Championship festivities, set to take place on May 18th and 19th. The event, which is the biggest fundraiser of the year for New Glarus Cares, promises a thrilling weekend of competition and entertainment, all for a great cause. Proceeds from the event will be used to build a new inclusive playground at Candy Cane Park.

In a remarkable show of support, the doubles tournament on Sunday, May 19th, officially sold out last week, leaving eager Euchre enthusiasts scrambling to secure a spot. With contestants flocking from all corners of the country and six more from Canada, the tournament is shaping up to be a truly international affair. Those still hoping to participate in the doubles tournament can add their name to a waiting list at EuchreChampionship.com.

While the doubles tournament may be at capacity, there are still seats available for the singles tournament on Saturday, May 18th. Eager players can sign up to test their skills and vie for the title of World Euchre Champion, win the coveted prize belt and other prizes.

Also, in the lead-up to the main event, New Glarus Cares will be selling raffle tickets, offering participants the chance to win $2500 on both Saturday and Sunday nights of the event. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at participating businesses and from members of New Glarus Cares, providing an additional opportunity to support the organization's cause.

The World Euchre Championship weekend isn't just about the tournaments; it's also a celebration of community and camaraderie. Throughout the weekend, everyone–including contestants and spectators alike–can enjoy a variety of activities, including a Euchre Run on Friday, which is a unique twist on the traditional poker run. Saturday night will feature Euchre Palooza, complete with live music from Frank Busch and The Names playing live at the New Glarus Fest Haus, and there will be exhibitors and delicious food offerings all weekend.

The festivities kick off with a Swiss-themed opening ceremony on Saturday at 12:30 PM, setting the stage for a weekend of fun and friendly competition. Spectators are invited to join in the excitement free of charge, soaking in the atmosphere and cheering on their favorite players.

"We hope to fill the house Saturday night as we kickoff the summer festival season," said Todd Klassy, New Glarus Cares board member. With a lineup of activities sure to delight attendees of all ages, the World Euchre Championship weekend promises to be an unforgettable experience, all while supporting a good cause.
